Last night in class, I was talking to some of our younger dancers about the 3 D’s of dance and WHY they are so important to an artist's training. I remember when my teacher, and original owner of Ocean Dance Force (which at the time was called Diane Fay Dance Theatre) taught me about these words and how much of an impact it had on me. Dedication, determination, and desire are three keywords that are essential to dancers. They are the pillars upon which successful dancers build their careers and reputations. In this blog post, we'll explore each of these words and how they are important to dancers.
Dedication
Dedication refers to a commitment to something that is important to you. For dancers, dedication means putting in the time and effort to improve their skills and perfect their craft. It requires sacrifice and a willingness to prioritize dance above other activities. Dancers who are dedicated to their craft are willing to work long hours, attend rehearsals, and push themselves to their limits to achieve their goals.
Determination
Determination refers to the ability to stay focused and motivated even in the face of challenges and setbacks. Dancers who are determined to succeed are able to push through pain, fatigue, and self-doubt. They are able to set goals and work towards them, even when progress is slow. Determination is what separates successful dancers from those who give up at the first sign of difficulty.
Desire
Desire refers to a strong feeling of wanting something. For dancers, desire means having a passion for dance and a deep love for the art form. It means wanting to perform and share your talent with others. Dancers who have a strong desire to succeed are more likely to work hard and persevere through difficult times. Desire is what fuels the dedication and determination required to become a successful dancer.
Together, these three words form a powerful foundation for success in dance. Dancers who are dedicated, determined, and have a strong desire to succeed are more likely to achieve their goals and fulfill their dreams. They are able to overcome obstacles and push through challenges because they are committed to their craft and passionate about what they do. By embracing these three words and making them a part of their daily lives, dancers can develop the skills and mindset necessary to become the best that they can be.
